Steel beam installation, often described as RSJ installation, is used to fix structural problems and open up a floorplan for remodelling and new construction projects — fitted in place of load-bearing walls, above door and window openings, or to support a floor structure, deck, hot tub or roof. Steel is a more efficient and affordable material than wood, with better support potential, and acts as an effective barrier against pest infestation, weathering, rot and termites. We use different beam reinforcement techniques, including the addition of welded sections and flats, and install wooden beams too, though steel beams carry more weight than engineered or solid lumber. We undertake steel beam installation for commercial, regeneration, rail and hospital projects, as well as residential work.

We also offer a structural concrete application service, using structural lightweight concrete to provide good strength-to-weight ratios for different structural components — resulting in a reduced volume of concrete and smaller elements, less reinforcing, lower cost, and better insulation and energy conservation. Concrete is applied by pump, with pump locations chosen to minimise vertical fall and adjustments made to air content, aggregate content and slump to prevent slump loss during placement. Structural concrete is used to manufacture roofs, elevated floors, beams, columns and walls for both commercial and residential structures, including custom-made panels for door and window openings, poured in place or pre-panelised for improved durability.

Our bricklaying service covers the complete range of masonry and block work for commercial and residential customers — home extensions, general building, brick letterbox installation, limestone retaining walls, garden walls and concrete block walls, including dividing block walls and lift shafts. Customers can choose from different brickwork patterns, including decorative approaches such as Basket and Herringbone Bond, popular for walkways and driveways, along with Dutch, English, Scottish and American Bond, with the Scottish and American Bond patterns mostly used for garden walls and other decorative elements. Our clients range from private healthcare companies, schools and corporate businesses to major retailers, and we work on small and large-scale industrial projects including factories, warehouses and office blocks.

First-fix carpentry covers the structural timber work behind a project — timber partition walls, shuttering for concrete, floor joists, roof studs and wall studding, fitting the staircase early enough to allow access to upper floors during construction, and roofing including lean-to, trussed or multi-pitched roofs.

First fix runs from the foundation to the point plasterers start work — after that, plumbers fix the pipes and engineers lay the cables, before second fix carpentry takes over. Our carpenters handle the finishing work, including fixing floorboards, architrave and skirting, fitting window frames, doors and door linings in hardwood, softwood or flush finishes, and manufacturing, supplying and installing bespoke furniture — library units, made-to-measure bookcases, coffee tables, school furniture, shop counters and fitted display units — along with kitchen cupboards made from hickory, maple, cherry and other wood species, or fitting cupboards you've already bought.
